How Long Does a Blepharoplasty Last?

Eyelid lifts or blepharoplasties are one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States. This surgery is meant to reduce wrinkles around your eye, and can also help you look more alert. The procedure can reduce the loose skin that hoods and hides your eyes, but will results disappear in a year or two?

What is a Blepharoplasty?

An eyelid lift is a surgical procedure that tightens the skin and muscles in your upper and lower lids. This creates an appearance of rejuvenation; when done correctly, it can remove heavy skin hanging over the eye area and give you a youthful appearance.

Blepharoplasty can also provide long-lasting removal of puffy areas of fat, drooping, and undereye bags. People may have upper or lower blepharoplasty, and some people may have both for maximum eye-opening, lifting, and brightening power.

How Long Does a Blepharoplasty Last?

No facial procedure will last forever, but blepharoplasties will give you many years of positive results before you begin to see the problem areas show signs of sagging again. Over time, tissues continue to lose their underlying support structure and succumb to aging and gravity. Fortunately, more blepharoplasties last at least over 10 years (and sometimes up to 20 years!). For some people, they may last longer, but you should plan on your procedure giving you results that last somewhere in that time frame. Dr. Lanfranchi and his team can restore and refresh your procedure if you would like at this time.

What Can You Expect From a Blepharoplasty?

You can expect years of smoother skin around the eyes, lifting of the “hooding” that can hang over the eye area, and flattening of undereye bags to remove that tired, heavy-eyed look. While a facelift tends to focus on the jaw and lower face to improve contours, this procedure focuses on the delicate area around the eyes.

Even though blepharoplasty is not a facelift, for some people it offers all the results they are looking for. With results visible immediately after recovery and full effects on lines and wrinkles within a few months, you can enjoy your newly revitalized appearance for the next decade or two.

“I’ve been considering eyelid surgery for a while now. My lids were starting to droop, and my right lid was even droopier because I had a non-stop twitch for over a year. I looked at just about every eyelid surgery review on Real Self (thank you all for posting!) and ended up booking a couple of consultations. I decided to go with Dr. Lanfranchi…he was more expensive but he and his staff were so professional and made me feel comfortable. I had the procedure on October 13…I’m still in the healing process but I am so pleased with my progress so far. I think my right eye is still a little swollen, but the bruising is almost completely gone and the scar is healing nicely. Overall, very pleased!” *
