How Long is Recovery from a Facelift Procedure?

A swift recovery from a facelift with exceptional results begins with a well-chosen facial cosmetic surgeon. This is why patients from all over the world have traveled to experience the superior talent, precision expertise, and exceptional care of Dr. Paul Lanfranchi at The Lanfranchi Center. Board-certified three times over in Facial Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Lanfranchi brings the training and experience of over 10,000 cosmetic procedures to his patients, and it really does make all the difference.

Performance Matters

The way the TLC Lift™, the TLC Premier Lift™, and the revision lift are performed greatly affects the amount of downtime patients experience. Every procedure at The Lanfranchi Center is done under local anesthesia with oral sedation, a process Dr. Lanfranchi has perfected since starting his practice in 2006. General anesthesia stresses the body and paralyzes the muscles. It’s much harder for the body to metabolize out of the system, making it much riskier than local anesthesia and best avoided where possible. Using Dr. Lanfranchi’s proven technique, patients experience no pain of the treatment area while their body remains in a state of pure relaxation. Because there’s less grogginess, disorientation, nausea, and difficulty breathing than is associated with general anesthetic, patients recover immediately following the procedure much quicker.

Procedure Aftercare and Recovery

You will receive detailed instructions on your facelift aftercare, including wound care, medications, dietary suggestions, and more. Following these directions to the letter greatly improves your recovery process. After the first 24 hours, getting up and moving around is recommended to get circulation flowing. Small trips to the bathroom or another room are ideal.

Your bandages usually come off 3 days after your procedure. This is also the peak time frame for the greatest swelling and bruising after your facelift. Don’t panic if it seems the procedure has done the opposite of restoring your youth and beauty. Nothing could be further from the truth. As your body heals, rest up as much as you can so you save the energy required for faster recovery.

Facelift Consultations Available

On average, patients recovering from a facelift increase mobility steadily in the 1st week and return to work for non-physical jobs by the end of the 2nd week. Dr. Lanfranchi has frequently had patients feel well enough to return to desk jobs that aren’t public facing after only 7-10 days. By the 2nd week, light exercise such as small housework tasks  and moderate walks are permitted, with moderate exercise allowed after week 2. Heavy exertion is inadvisable until one month post-op.

Throughout your recovery, minimize your exposure to sunlight. You’ll be more sensitive to the sun for several weeks, with sunburn a greater risk. Scarring may also be worse with exposure to harmful UV rays. Consistently apply sunscreen for any outdoor excursions, or consider a cover-up, such as a hat that entirely shades your face.

Contact the TLC Team  at any signs of infection, including spreading redness, pus-filled drainage, excessive pain, or fever greater than 101 degrees. We’re here to ensure your recovery is as smooth and quick as possible.

Stellar Service from Start to Finish

Two months ago I had a lower lifestyle facial lift. I was apprehensive, but it was well worth the effort and expense. Dr. Lanfranchi and his entire staff were kind, caring and very professional, from the first meeting to the follow up appointments.

The procedure is done under a local, not general anesthetic, and it was easy. I healed quickly and am very satisfied with the results.
His fee was very reasonable. Any further facial work I want done, I will be sure to come back here.
