Eyelid Lift Surgery – 4 Signs You May Need It That Are Easily Missed

There goes a saying that the eyes are the window to the soul. If that’s true, then why wouldn’t you want nice curtains to frame the window? It seems the skin around your eyes always the first area of your face to show signs of aging. Cosmetic injections and anti-wrinkle injections can do a lot to keep your eye area looking youthful and less wrinkled.

Dermal filler injections and wrinkle relaxing solutions can go a long way to restore a smoother look to the area around your eyes. However, while cosmetic injections are great for some ageing eye concerns, including crow’s feet and tear troughs, sometimes eyelid lift surgery is needed to get rid of puffy, sagging eyelid skin.

Not only do the results of eyelid surgery last longer than cosmetic and anti-wrinkle injections but they are also more noticeable, and rejuvenating compared to anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections. It’s all about combining treatments to get the best facial rejuvenation results for the individual patient.

Combining eyelid surgery and eye area injectables (Anti-Wrinkle Solutions and Dermal Fillers or Tear Trough Fillers) often gets better results than stand-alone procedures.

Cosmetic injections CAN help remedy many signs of aging eyelids.  However, once the skin has become heavy, puffy or saggy to the point the eyelashes or pupils are quite obscured by the eyelid skin, only a blepharoplasty will tend to get the results most people want for eyelid rejuvenation.

With that in mind, what are some signs of aging that indicate that you may need eyelid lift surgery?

Eyelid Lift Surgery – 4 Signs You May Need It That Are Easily Missed

The key signs of aging include:

  1.  Sagging eyelid skin that has lost strength and collagen
  2. Atrophy of the skeletal system. This leaves you with less facial bone support around the eye socket area and cheeks.
  3. Deteriorating muscles around the eyes
  4. General downwards drooping of the skin. Medically known as ptosis, meaning skin droopiness.

Eyes age because your eye area suffers from cumulative appearance changes over time.  It’s not just one thing, it’s a combination of factors. Weight and hormonal changes, as well as other lifestyle factors can all leave your eyelid skin looking tired and droopy.

Some other factors that can lead people to consider eyelid lift surgery include but are not limited to:

  • Blinking every few seconds when you’re awake
  • Sun exposure
  • Squinting
  • Staring at computer screens
  • Sleep routine. In other words, not getting enough sleep.
  • Using incorrect skincare products
  • Wearing too much makeup
  • Rubbing your eyes
  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • Being too aggressive when removing makeup from your delicate eyelid skin
  • Less skin resiliency over time (causing sagging)
  • Genetic tendencies towards eye bags, dark circles or eyelid puffiness
