What is Neck Liposuction?
Neck liposuction reduces the submental fat or the fat underneath the chin. Dr. Lanfranchi performs this treatment under local anesthesia and makes a small, easily-concealable incision underneath the chin. After making the incision, Dr. Lanfranchi inserts the cannula–a thin tube–to remove the fat.
Dr. Lanfranchi’s skills allow him to contour the neck to a natural, balanced structure. Some patients choose to add chin augmentation for a more balanced facial harmony. If you do not have enough fat to remove but are unhappy with your neck due to sagging skin or submental fullness, you may benefit more from a neck lift.
How Long is Recovery from Neck Liposuction?
Neck liposuction has one of the shortest recovery times in cosmetic treatments. Most patients in office jobs return to work within three days. Dr. Lanfranchi may recommend waiting around a week or two before returning to work for those with more strenuous jobs. We may provide a supportive strap for the first few days to reduce swelling and ensure a comfortable recovery.
How Can I Speed up Recovery from Neck Liposuction?
As with all liposuction procedures, there are ways to help speed up recovery. Cold compresses and approved medications can reduce swelling and help you get back to your daily life faster.
The first rule, however, is to be mindful and patient. We know you want to return to your life as soon as possible, but you should listen to your body and take it one day at a time to reduce the risk of complications.
The second rule is to eat well, sleep well, and stay hydrated. Your body is expending energy to heal your neck. Better nourishment and rest give your body the energy it needs to heal. Furthermore, a balanced diet and drinking water can reduce inflammation. We recommend avoiding alcohol and coffee for your recovery.
The third rule is ECI–elevate, compress, and ice. Cold compresses and elevation lessens blood flow and reduces fluid accumulation in your neck. Do not continuously ice, as blood flow is necessary to bring nutrients and healing cells to the area. We recommend icing in increments and following Dr. Lanfranchi’s instructions for compression garments.
Lastly, please moderate your activities. Vigorous exercise or any other activity that raises blood pressure can increase swelling.
Am I a Good Candidate for Neck Liposuction?
Younger patients between the ages of 20 and 54 have the best results from neck liposuction as their skin contracts more smoothly afterward. If you are unhappy with your appearance due to fat accumulation below the chin, you are a good candidate for neck liposuction.
