Am I a Good Candidate for Fractional CO2 Laser Treatments?

Wrinkles, fine lines, crepey skin. These are some of the hallmarks of aging and its effect on our appearance. You may hear facelifts and neck lifts being the ultimate way to turn back the clock, but these procedures primarily address skin laxity and sagging, not wrinkles. Fortunately, you can turn to innovative laser technology for those pesky lines.

What is a Fractional CO2 Laser?

Fractional CO2 lasers are among the most effective laser skin rejuvenation options. A fractional carbon dioxide laser uses powerful light beams to partially ablate the skin. The laser causes strategic, controlled damage to remove damaged skin on the surface, simultaneously heating the dermis to stimulate collagen production and contraction.

Am I a Good Candidate for Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

Many people can benefit from fractional CO2 laser treatments to improve their appearance. Healthy patients with light to medium skin tones are often ideal candidates for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. The device’s light beam targets pigment, so those with darker skin tones should consider other treatment options.

If you’re eligible for a fractional CO2 laser treatment, there are still some other factors to consider. You and Dr. Lanfranchi will need to assess whether:

  • The treatment is effective for your specific skin concerns
  • The recovery timeline fits your lifestyle
  • Laser resurfacing will produce your desired results.

What Can a Fractional CO2 Laser Treat?

While a facelift is best for patients whose facial skin and muscles have sagged, laser treatments are meant for the tone and texture of the skin itself. The treatment helps produce firmer, tighter skin but won’t significantly improve skin laxity.

Fractional CO2 laser treatments are most effective for the following skin concerns:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin discoloration and hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Sun damage and dark spots

How Long is Recovery After Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

Unlike many anti-aging procedures, downtime after fractional CO2 laser treatments is minimal. Patients can resume most activities immediately after. However, you should plan on a few days of social downtime. You will likely have redness, swelling, and peeling during recovery. You’ll need to keep your face clean and moisturized, using gentle products and avoiding sun exposure while your skin heals.

When Will I See Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment Results?

If you’re looking for a one-time treatment option, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing might not be the answer. Many people need more than one treatment for optimal results. However, this depends on the severity of your aging concerns. You can expect to see some improvement after the first treatment.

Once you reach your desired results, you should plan on occasional follow-up sessions to maintain them long-term. Your visible benefits should last several months, even a few years. However, you may want to return for a maintenance treatment every year or two for lasting results.

I am 53 had sun damaged skin and a lot of fine lines around my mouth as well as scaring on my left cheek. I returned home after my procedure relaxed and reclined on a chair, after filling a large bowl with ice and 4×4 gauze pads. I soaked the gauze pads in the cold water and layered them on my face. After a few hours I washed my face and reapplied cold compresses to my face. No pain whatsoever a little swelling. I had taken Tylenol when I got home but don’t even think it was necessary. Every 1/2 hour I rewet the layer of gauze by squeezing a handful of fresh gauze that was in the bowl of ice water. After 3 hours I removed the gauze reapplied the aquaphor healing ointment and reapplied a layer of fresh ice water soaked gauze. Before bed I reapplied a layer of aquaphor and was done. The next morning was my follow up appointment. Dr Lanfranchi and his medical assistant Ryan checked out my face cleansed very well and repeated the very clearly after care instructions again. I felt wonderfully taken care of by both Dr Lanfranchi and Ryan. Excellent care and very clear instructions. Looking forward to posting my before and after photo’s. Stay tuned
