Jowls form when we become older, as the skin becomes less firm and elastic. Virtually every person will develop jowls at some point. The supportive proteins in our skin’s connective tissues – elastin and collagen – break down because they lose hydration. When this happens, facial structures start to succumb to gravity. Elastin, which is responsible for the skin’s rubber-band effect, does not bounce back once it has been stretched. This causes our skin to become lax. The lack of tightness and firmness causes jowls to form. The good news, though, is that this can be rectified with a facelift.
About the TLC™ Premier Lift
Dr. Lanfranchi is delighted to offer the TLC™ Premier Lift, which addresses areas of the neck and face that tend to age first, as well as areas that age the most significantly and quickly. This procedure will be performed under local anesthesia, ensuring you are comfortable throughout the rejuvenation process. For most patients, the procedure time is less than two hours, but this is something that we will, of course, advise on.
Full Lift Vs Mini Lift
When having a TLC™ Premier Lift, you will need to decide whether to have a mini lift or a full lift. Don’t panic, though, as this is something we will discuss with you during your consultation.
The full lift is a customized neck and lower face procedure, which includes the platysma muscle and SMAS layer, which will dramatically lift jowls away, as well as tightening the muscles, correcting fullness under the chin, and tightening the skin around the neck.
So, when is a mini lift more appropriate? Well, this is for patients who want to address signs of aging, including jowls, yet they want to do this before they have become too pronounced. This means that there is not as much shifting of the facial muscles needed.
