A small or weak chin can affect more than just the appearance of your lower face. Chin augmentation is a much more powerful and life-changing procedure than many people realize. Some people who think they need multiple procedures done to achieve facial balance find that chin augmentation corrects many of their concerns.
What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation enhances the shape of your chin using a silicone implant. These implants come in different shapes and sizes to customize your chin’s appearance. Unlike silicone breast implants, chin implants are solid and made to stay in place for a lifetime. Chin augmentation is a simple procedure using small, hidden incisions.Â
How is Chin Augmentation Performed?
Chin augmentation uses a single small incision in the crease under the chin, a place no one will normally notice. Dr. Lanfranchi uses this incision to insert your implant on top of the jawbone to keep it from moving. An extended anatomic implant is often the best choice to conform to your features and provide a natural appearance. However, Dr. Lanfranchi will choose the right one to meet your needs Implants can provide different amounts of shape, projection, and enhancement, depending on the results you want to see.Â
3 Tips for Chin Augmentation Recovery
Recovering from chin augmentation is typically a quick and easy process. You may experience some bruising and swelling after your procedure that can take a few days to fade. You may also experience some soreness, although this is easily manageable. Dr. Lanfranchi and his team will provide you with customized aftercare instructions. We recommend these tips to help you heal:
Stock Up on Soft Foods
Soft foods may be more comfortable for you to eat for the first few days after your chin augmentation. Avoid hard foods that would require jaw pressure. Follow your surgeon’s guidelines and your own comfort level.Â
Follow Your Aftercare Instructions
Dr. Lanfranchi’s post-surgical instructions will provide details about caring for your incision, a timeline for resuming various activities, and guidelines for what to expect. If you notice anything unexpected, contact the team at the Lanfranchi Center right away.Â
Limit Strenuous Activities
You should limit strenuous activities for several weeks after chin augmentation. Giving the implant time to heal will prevent it from moving and allow it to settle into place. Resume your usual exercise routine on the schedule provided by Dr. Lanfranchi.Â
Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Augmentation?
Healthy adults with reasonable expectations are usually good candidates for chin augmentation. The silicone implants are safe for almost everyone. Candidates often have concerns about the shape of their chin as well as other facial features. In some cases, a chin augmentation is all that is needed to address their issues. People with certain medical conditions may not be good candidates for this procedure.
I had a lower neck and chin lift from Dr.Lanfranchi exactly four weeks ago today. I am probably one of the most nervous patients ever and was so worried about how the procedure would be! I will tell you I had no discomfort or pain and could not believe that I could have this done and truly was easier than going to the dentist. I am so happy with my outcome. I never liked looking in a mirror at myself and now all I do is stare at my profile. Dr. Lanfranchi has made me feel like I am in my forties all over again! He is simply the best!!
