If you have droopy skin around your eye area, you may feel that this is starting to take over your entire appearance. If this is impacting your confidence and getting you down, this is not something you simply have to accept. There is an option available, and this is blepharoplasty, which is a type of eyelid surgery. Read on to discover everything you need to know about it.

Blepharoplasty Overview

Blepharoplasty is a type of eyelid surgery that can be used to treat your lower lids, upper lids, or both. No matter whether you are encountering functional issues with your eyelids or you simply want to improve the appearance of your eyes, eyelid surgery can help to give this area a boost so that you can get your confidence back.

Upper Vs Lower Blepharoplasty

There are two different types of blepharoplasty; upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. So, let’s take a look at both options and the difference between them.

Upper eyelid surgery is ideal for patients whose upper eyelids have sagged low enough so that the patient’s eyelids become covered or reduced. On the flip side, if you have puffy or saggy lower eyelids, lower eyelid lift surgery is going to be the better choice for you.

No matter which type of eyelid surgery you go for, the procedure is going to involve excess tissue and fat being removed from around the eye to create a more youthful and refreshed facial appearance. The difference is simply where in the eye area that the fat and tissue are going to be removed.

Benefits of a Blepharoplasty

There are a number of different benefits that are associated with blepharoplasty. First, we have to acknowledge the fact that this treatment can be used to help with a number of different problems. This includes:

  • Excess skin above the upper eyelids
  • Bags underneath the eyes
  • Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
  • Sagging or loose skin that creates folds or disturbs your upper eyelid’s natural contour, which can sometimes impair your vision

Am I a Candidate for a Blepharoplasty?

Finally, one thing that a lot of people want to know is whether or not they are going to be a good candidate for eyelid surgery. In order to be considered a good candidate for this treatment, you need to be in good general health, preferably a non-smoker, and it is important that you do not have any sort of medical condition that can impair healing. Moreover, it is vital that you do not have any serious eye conditions.

Aside from this, a good candidate for blepharoplasty is someone who has realistic expectations for the treatment. Of course, this is something that Dr. Lanfranchi will discuss with you during your consultation.

“I’ve been considering eyelid surgery for a while now. My lids were starting to droop, and my right lid was even droopier because I had a non-stop twitch for over a year. I looked at just about every eyelid surgery review on Real Self (thank you all for posting!) and ended up booking a couple of consultations. I decided to go with Dr. Lanfranchi…he was more expensive but he and his staff were so professional and made me feel comfortable. I had the procedure on October 13…I’m still in the healing process but I am so pleased with my progress so far. I think my right eye is still a little swollen, but the bruising is almost completely gone and the scar is healing nicely. Overall, very pleased!” *
